You know the feeling – you’re really desperate to update the style of a room, but you don’t have the time, energy or funds for a total makeover! For us, this is the case in many of our rooms. As regular visitors to our blog will know, we have recently moved into a rented property, and are desperate to make it ‘our own’ (sounding like X-Factor now!) So when we were offered by the team at JD Williams to choose some items for our bedroom, we were absolutely delighted! To say that I was like a kid in a candy store was an understatement!
I was aware of the clothing ranges at JD Williams, but I really hadn’t realised how great their home interior ranges were. You can see the bedroom range, including bedding, throws, curtains, and accessories, here. It is so easy to change the look of your bedroom with just a few updates, and since the bed usually dominates the room, a new set of bedlinen and perhaps a throw or some cushions, can bring an entirely new feel to the room. You can almost completely change the colour scheme or the style, going from bold or modern to vintage or floral, with any other variation in between.
I chose to have only a small change, as I wanted to make the room a little lighter without changing the style or colour scheme too much. Here’s what I chose:
I went for a gorgeous plump 13.5 tog Silentnight Ultrabounce duvet, as I thought it would add a lovely fluffy and inviting feel to the bed, which is great for the cooler months. I was not wrong! This duvet is such luxury! It is like sleeping under a soft fluffy cloud. Warm and snug, yet not at all heavy, and keeps its shape beautifully. Last year we had a much thinner duvet which we left on throughout the winter, just adding blankets and throws, but I somehow never felt warm and cosy enough! This duvet is so warm and snug!! So with the lovely duvet chosen, on to the duvet cover…
As I said, I wanted a light and bright look, but still wanted to stay within the traditional, vintage style that I love. I also wanted something to suit the end of summer (wishful thinking!), as well as taking us through the colder months. I went for this beautiful embroidered set, embellished with birds and flowers, but still with enough pain fabric to make it look nice and light. It looks a lot more expensive than it is, with its lovely embroidery details. The actual fabric is also a gorgeous close weave, and it feels soft and luxurious to touch. It also washes beautifully.
On the JD Williams website, this set is shown with a lovely rich teal throw and cushions. I wanted to stick close to the colours I already had however, so I chose a throw in a dusky pink shade, which picks out the pink of the embroidered pattern on the duvet cover. The throw is a large bedspread in fact, which is very light. I thought it would be great on its own in the summer, as well as over the duvet in the winter. Its weight is little more than a heavy sheet really, which is ideal as the duvet is already plenty warm enough. This fantastic value bedspread has a scalloped edge and a quilted pattern to it, and amazingly, also comes with two scalloped pillowcases. This makes the set extremely good value, and also very versatile. I’ve shown in the pictures how it could be pulled up the bed entirely, paired with the duvet cover and pillowcases in pulling it up to the pillows, or folded down to the foot of the bed (which is how I prefer it), but in a concertina way so it can be pulled back up if required.
To finish off the look, I needed some cushions, but I need your help dear readers. I’m not sure my existing cushions really go, being more of a mauve shade than pink. Also, I’m not sure how many I need any more? What do you say?
Some finishing touches in styling might require matching table lamps. Or perhaps I could change the shades of the existing lamps, or paint them? (But they are not mine!). I’m also aware that the bedside tables don’t match the bed and chest of drawers. I’m working on that. We brought our own bed to the house, but the bedside tables and lamps were already here. In fact, our bedroom is not very ‘Instagrammable’ at all, but at least now it is light, bright, and very cosy, and starting to look like mine, thanks to JD Williams!
Of course, the thing which truly makes it part of my home, is having our little monsters bouncing on the bed! This one couldn’t wait to try out our new bedding, and I found he had crept into the bed on the very first night it was made up with its new bedding! He couldn’t wait to give it a try!!
What about you? What would you change about your bedroom to give it a facelift?
